Drexel University
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Four embedded computing courses from Libre Computer for the department, in Winter Quarter 2027. The same board is used in every course. Each course stops where the next one starts.
Classes run Monday 4 January through Saturday 13 March 2027. Exams run Monday 15 March through Saturday 20 March. Monday 18 January is a university holiday, so that week has no Monday class. Dates are the university's academic calendar.
The four courses
They run in the same quarter, for four different groups of students. Drexel assigns the course numbers when it opens the sections. The modules and labs are on the education site.
200
Computers you can hold
Flash a board, use the shell, and wire an LED, a button, and one sensor. This course stops before the boot ROM and kernel drivers.
300
Embedded Linux systems
Follow a board from power-on through boot, the device tree, and the header buses, then build a small project.
400
Building a board into a product
Write a kernel driver, measure power and boot time, and make a small product that recovers from a bad update.
500
Open hardware platforms
Compare the public chip documents with a running board, rebuild the bootloader, and leave a method another student can repeat.
Lab pages
The modules, labs, and bench notes are at education.libre.computer. A section uses one board, Das Frite or Solitude. Instructors use that site's Teach section for the schedule and the lab setup.
Students register, and the department records grades and credit, in Drexel's own systems.
