ECE 441 · Week 6
Modern Computer: Secure Infrastructure
A peer rerun changes nothing in the method.
Week 6 of 10 · Solitude
ECE 441 · Week 6 · In class
A peer rerun changes nothing in the method.
- The note is what did not match.
- Run another student's week-5 method as written.
- Write the classmate's name and the one step you will not change.
- That pair is the homework.
ECE 441 · Week 6 · In class
A peer rerun changes nothing in the method. (continued)
- If a step fails to match, rerun that same step and still change nothing.
ECE 441 · Week 6 · In class
The graded note is the mismatch.
- It is not a rewritten method.
ECE 441 · Week 6 · Lecture
A rerun tests the method, not the student
- Run another student's week-5 sheet exactly as written.
- Change nothing, even a step you are sure is wrong.
- What did not match is the result: a difference in a number, or a step you could not follow.
- Fixing the sheet is its author's job, after reading your note.
ECE 441 · Week 6 · Lecture
Writing down a mismatch
| Step | The sheet says | I did | I saw |
|---|---|---|---|
| … | quoted | exactly what | what differed |
- Quote the step; do not paraphrase it.
- "I did" is what you actually did, including where you had to guess.
ECE 441 · Week 6 · Lecture
When a step does not match
- Rerun that same step once more, still changing nothing.
- Same mismatch twice: the method or the setup differs. A match the second time: the step is not repeatable as written.
- Both readings go in your notes; the graded note is the mismatch.
- Do not keep rerunning until it matches: that is choosing the answer.
ECE 441 · Week 6 · Lecture
Differences that are not the method
- A different board, card, supply, cable, or meter on the other bench.
- A different image or kernel revision than the author used.
- Room conditions: other loads on the same supply, a warm board after a previous run.
- Record them; whether the sheet should have named them is the author's call.
ECE 441 · Week 6 · Lab
Lab
- Run another student's week-5 method.
- Change nothing in the method. Write what did not match. Second pass: rerun the same step that failed to match, still changing nothing, and keep the second observation in your notes.
- Assemble the lab hand-in: A peer-rerun note: what did not match the week-5 method.
